Conference |
The exciting 2008 CALAFCO Annual Conference is scheduled for 3-5 September 2008 at the Sheraton Universal in Universal City (Los Angeles). Under the theme "LAFCo - California's Future is Our Business" the program is full of valuable sessions which focus on LAFCo role, the future of LAFCos, and current growth issues in California. In addition to general and breakout sessions the program includes ample time for roundtable discussions and networking. The conference is an ideal learning experience for LAFCo commissioners and staff, planners, local agency officials, LAFCo applicants, and other stakeholders who have an interest in LAFCos in California. Contents include: 1) key reference and materials on special districts; 2) model documents for independent special districts that want to be seated on their LAFCo; and 3) links to special district sites. With over 4,000 special districts in California and 29 LAFCos that do not have special district representation, this page provides information to communities and to districts interested in a seat on their LAFCo. |

Awards |
Nominations are now open for the 2008 CALAFCO Achievement Awards Recipients. The awards recognize extraordinary achievements of individuals, commissions, local agencies and organizations related to the mission and principles of LAFCo and CALAFCO. Awards will be presented at the gala Awards Dinner at the CALAFCO annual conference in Universal City on Thursday 4 September. Deadline for nominations is Friday, 15 August 2008.

Board of
Directors
Nominations |
Nominations are open for the CALAFCO Board of Directors. Board members must be regular or alternate LAFCo commissioners and are elected to designated seats. Board members serve two year terms. There are nine seats up for election this year on the 15-member board: three county seats; two city seats; two special district seats; and two public seats. Nominations must be made by the commissioner's LAFCo and received by the close of business on 4 August 2008. Elections will take place at the CALAFCO Annual Business meeting on Thursday, 4 September in Universal City. Nominations may also be made from the floor at the business meeting.
